Arnold local area forum –your views
The local area forum is a partnership of the county and borough councils, health and statutory agencies, the voluntary sector, community organisations and faith groups working in the Arnold area. It aims to improve the way we work together and to establish groups within the community to deliver new services and projects.
Your suggestions and comments are welcome and to date have included:
- A need for continued and improved environmental open spaces in Arnold as opposed to more shops and businesses.
- Requests for more recreational/ sporting facilities, including suggestions such as tea dances for the elderly and martial arts for young people.
- Comments about car parking and seeking the restriction of vehicles access to Front Street and elsewhere.
- The possibility of a Credit Union for Arnold
There were also comments praising Arnold as a venue for out of town shoppers.
- Front Street pedestrianisation (a mixture of views received)
- New and raised pedestrian crossings for the Arnold area.
- Better disabled provision around the town.
- Litter reduction and improved litter sweeping
- Potential to re-site bus stops
- Traffic and speeding concerns
- Requests for more local activities and interests
Some of these issues have been referred onwards:
- Car parking for example has been a live issue with Gedling Borough Council.
- Front Street has been the subject of wide public consultation by the County Council.
- Matters of pedestrian facilities have been referred to Council officers along with traffic and speeding matters for consideration
Here are some of the comments that have been made in the recent issue of the forum
Mrs.CB from Arnold suggested a Credit Union for Arnold and also wished to express her thanks to ELUSE computers for their help in obtaining an affordable computer.
Editorial reply-- Your suggestion for a Credit Union for Arnold will be passed on to the appropiate organisation for reference. Thank you for your comments about ELUSE of Bulwell. It is nice to know that such businesses exist for our readers.
H.F.B. from Arnold wrote in about car parking in Arnold and about restricting vehicles on Front Street to delivery and invalids only.
Editorial reply--The issue of car parking is currntly occupying Gedling Borough Council with the proposal to introduce car parking charges which might even affect your comment about restictions on Front Street and elsewhere.
E.C from Sherwood writes to say that although she now lives away from Arnold she still frequently visits for shopping etc several times a week.
Thank you also for the high praise about Arnold town centre and its facilities.
J.S from Arnold comments on the need for contined and improved environmental open spaces in Arnold and not more shops, businesses etc. He also suggested that the Borough Council should offer more recreational/ sporting facilites like tea dances for the elderly and Kung Fu, Kendo ( not Karate again!) for younger people.
Editorial reply--Your comments about environmental issues will be forwarded to Gedling BC as well as your ideas about additional leisure activities.
