Front street improvements- Now a two stage approach
Following an extended consultation process, plans were agreed for work along Front Street from Worrall Avenue to the library. Sadly, a shortfall in the available funding has occurred because the Greater Nottingham Partnership will not be making its expected grant Contribution. As a result, the County Council has decided that it now needs to phase the planned work. The first phase will consist of the northern section of Front Street from the library to Crofts Road which will allow the County Council to continue with the existing Traffic Regulation Orders and temporary bus relocation and its within its current budget.
It is still the aim for work to start on site in June. The final drawings are now being finalised and space has been booked in the library to make sure Arnold’s traders and residents can see a copy of them. An exhibition of the plans is set to be in the library between 25th may and 29th june.
Phase 2 of the scheme will cover from Croft Road to Worrall Avenue and will depend upon funding availability for the 2008/9 financial year. The phased approach should reduce the impact of the works on car parking which has been a concern for some traders. It is hoped that improvements to the northern section will lead those traders with concerns to be somewhat more positive about the second phase.
